Safeguarding
"Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children is everyone’s responsibility. Everyone who comes into contact with children and their families has a role to play. In order to fulfil this responsibility effectively, all practitioners should make sure their approach is child centred. This means that they should consider, at all times, what is in the best interests of the child.
No single practitioner can have a full picture of a child’s needs and circumstances. If children and families are to receive the right help at the right time, everyone who comes into contact with them has a role to play in identifying concerns, sharing information and taking prompt action."
Quote from Keeping Children Safe In Education 2024
Safeguarding the children at Dallas Road Community Primary is of upmost priority to staff and governors. Some of the things we do to ensure that children, staff and visitors are safe in our school are:
- Rigorous procedures and policies are in place to keep all children safe
- Safer recruitment practice is robust
- Staff receive training throughout the year based on latest national and local guidance
- Thorough induction procedures for staff and volunteers
- Members of the Governing Board undertake training to support them in their role
- An up to date curriculum which teaches children about how to keep safe and manage risks both on and offline
- We work effectively with many other agencies including the police, local authority, NHS and various early help providers
- Maintain an attitude of ‘it could happen here’ where safeguarding is concerned
- Consider, at all times, what is in the best interests of the pupil with a child-centred approach
- Contribute to, and maintain a high safeguarding ethos within and beyond the setting, with safeguarding pupils at the forefront of practice at all times
- Have a zero-tolerance approach to abuse, including child-on-child abuse

What You Can Do
Parents and carers play a role in safeguarding children in their community. If you have any concerns, no matter how small, you should report them to someone who you trust will listen. Parents and children should speak to one of the school's safeguarding leads if they have any concerns about a child or staff member.
If a child is in immediate danger, call the police straight away on 999. You can report concerns directly to Lancashire County Council by calling 0300 123 6720 or out of hours 0300 123 6722.
