Our Curriculum
At Dallas Road, we aim to provide a creative, vocabulary rich curriculum that challenges and inspires our children, in preparation for life in a culturally diverse and ever-changing world. High expectations, inclusive strategies, enriching experiences and precise teaching all form the basis of our approach.
Our children will have the opportunity to read widely, be creative, understand their communities, ask questions and become knowledgeable, independent learners who think as global citizens, with the cultural capital they need to succeed. The curriculum we offer is enriched and personalised to our children and prioritises the things we want our children to experience during their time with us. Our Curriculum will prepare our children for life-long learning.
To support our curriculum offer, we decided as a school that having key threads running through our subject areas as a backbone to how and what we teach was essential. These would ‘drive’ learning forwards and become the ‘drivers’ for the Dallas Road Curriculum. After a thorough consultation with children, staff, parents and governors, we decided on seven main drivers for our exciting curriculum:
1: Key Skills
To ensure that all our children receive the very best education that we can provide by equipping ALL children with the necessary skills in reading, writing and mathematics to succeed.
2: Global Citizenship
For our children to be responsible global citizens who respect and value diversity and have an appreciation of different cultures and beliefs. Global citizens are socially aware, challenge stereotypes and are committed to making their world a more sustainable and equitable place.
3: Healthy Mind, Healthy Body
For our children to understand how to be fit and healthy in both body and mind and to understand why it is important.
4: Creativity
For our children to experience, develop and practise creativity as an entitlement. Our understanding of creativity extends beyond making and doing in an artistic sense, and allows for the development of fluency of knowledge, problem solving and ideas through interpretation, experimentation, connection and play.
5: Communication
For our children to develop the necessary skills to communicate effectively their thoughts, ideas and feelings as well as knowing how to speak and listen with respect in a variety of different situations and contexts. Our children should be confident communicators equipped to succeed both now and in the future.
6: Community
For our children to understand and value the communities to which they belong, to appreciate what they have to offer, and to be of service to their communities, shaping futures.
7: Values
For our children to be equipped with an understanding of the school’s core values, thereby developing knowledge, skills and attitudes that enable them to develop as reflective learners and grow to be stable, educated and happy individuals.
